XRP Cannot Pass as A Security, Says Ripple’s CEO

Its classification as XRP has raised a variety of issues which led to an action in a class used to determine the definition of the digital asset. Ripple’s CEO Brad Gradlinghouse, recently confirmed the news, and expressed his thoughts on the subject. He further stated that XRP does not fall under the category of asset security. This isn’t to suggest that it will happen, but Bitcoin Digital claims to substantially improve your chances of making money. The main reason came from the lawsuit that was initially initiated against the company because of its involvement in the sale of unregistered tokens in the year 2018. In the end, the Ripple firm’s motion, filed in December of 2019 asked for the case be dismissed due to the lack of legal merit.

Filed Motion by Ripple

Based on the dismissal of the lawsuit’s motion The United States District Court for the Northern District of California keenly examined and accepted the motion in submission. The announcement of the ruling was scheduled to be made on the 15th of January however, indications point to the court taking longer to issue the final judgement.

Garlinghouse’s Comments on XRP

Recently, Garlinghouse shared his reviews with CNBC and shared his insights on not using XRP as an asset security. After his research in the past, he ruled out the Ripple company from any responsibility in connection with the XRP security concerns. He also outlined specific reasons for why the asset shouldn’t be categorized as security. Following the tweet of Digital Assets Daily, the reviewed review was clear in stating Brad Gradlinghouse’s views according to his words „I believe it’s obvious that XRP isn’t considered a security. ….“ The main aspect he was trying to drive to the forefront was the significant distinction between the XRP coin and the Ripple company; they are very different entities. The principal idea behind the claim was that XRP could exist even it were the Ripple firm was to take over. He stated that „It’s an independent open-source technology.“

He also stated that XRP is not a significant link with the Ripple company. In this case, the fact that a person owns XRP does not mean the owner is entitled to any stake in the Ripple company. Gradlinghouse said that XRP didn’t have enough backing to be considered as an asset security. However, he couldn’t provide a clear explanation of why he did not consider the coin an asset. The official also said that should the reasons for the decision be reversed then the official decision could result in the sale of panic that will result in a plunge in prices.

Ethereum transactions “go parabolic” – ETH price approaches all-time high

Ethereum is now doing $ 3 billion more transactions than Bitcoin.

ETH 2.0 staking reaches $ 3.4 billion.

ETH prices rise by 8% and are approaching a new all-time high

Ethereum transactions are up around 50% this month alone as the network now handles more than Bitcoin. ETH prices have their own “moon shot” as the asset approaches a new all-time high.

According to the latest data from Messari, Ethereum transactions rose to a record $ 12 billion in January. This number is a 30-day moving average that took off around New Years Day.

Researcher Ryan Watkins describes the trend as „parabolic“ and adds that Profit Revolution scam is now processing $ 3 billion more than Bitcoin per day.

The big move has been attributed to stablecoin transactions, the majority of which are based on the Ethereum network. According to the Messari chart, the „flipping“ took place in July 2020 – shortly before the DeFi boom, which boosted transactions on Ethereum ( Instructions for buying Ethereum with PayPal ).

More reasons to be bullish on Ethereum

The sheer volume of financial transactions on Ethereum is just one reason to be bullish. Trust and investments in ETH 2.0 are increasing daily.

According to the ETH 2.0 launchpad, 2.59 million ETH are now staked in the beacon chain deposit contract.

At current prices, this is worth about $ 3.4 billion, equivalent to about 2.26% of total supply. The Launchpad estimates a 9.7% annual percentage return for stakers, but this number is likely to decrease over time as the number of stakers increases.

ETH 2.0 already has more validators than its “ETH killer” competitors, which makes the network fundamentally the most secure – and it’s not even fully operational yet.

The number of recent Layer 2 launches and platforms is also a reason to be bullish on Ethereum . The average transaction price is currently $ 6.70, according to BitInfoCharts, so faster and cheaper solutions are in great demand.

Optimistic Ethereum has just rolled out a soft mainnet start, while Synthetix and Loopring are already offering L2 liquidity mining and transactions.

Ethereum price is approaching new highs

Ethereum prices have soared in the past 24 hours and are up 7.5% since the same time yesterday. According to TradingView, at the time of this writing, ETH was changing hands for $ 1,350, only about 8% off its all-time high.

The charts also show that ETH shot up to $ 1,400 on January 10, but was unable to maintain that level.

Bitcoin on credit: Microstrategy wants to buy BTC for 400 million US dollars

Micrsotrategy has again announced that it will buy an enormous amount of Bitcoin. Meanwhile, the DeFi sector and Tether’s market cap are at all-time highs. The market update.

The Bitcoin course is still struggling to sustainably break the US $ 19,000 mark

At press time, the BTC rate is $ 18,827. This means that the rate of the key crypto currency has to drop 1.84 percent in a 24-hour comparison.

What’s better than Bitcoin in the war chest? More Bitcoin in the war chest. Microstrategy boss Michael Saylor’s calculation must be something like this, because on December 7th, Microstrategy announced the next bang, which should make Bitcoin Union bulls click their tongues. The IT company plans to increase its Bitcoin reserve for $ 400 million. The money will come from the sale of convertible bonds (senior convertible notes) to institutional investors.

The Notes are unsecured, priority obligations of MicroStrategy and accrue interest semi-annually to June 15 and December 15 of each year beginning June 15, 2021. The Notes will mature on December 15, 2025 unless they are repurchased, redeemed or converted in accordance with their terms at an earlier date. […] MicroStrategy intends to invest the net proceeds from the sale of the Notes in Bitcoin in accordance with its Treasury Reserve Policy until the needs for working capital and other general corporate purposes are determined.

it says in the corresponding message to the investors of Microstrategy

The share price of Microstrategy (MSTR) benefited from the announcement and gained 2.5 percent. So far, the US service provider’s strategy of using Bitcoin as the main reserve asset is working. In particular, the Bitcoin rally of the past few weeks has catapulted the corporate value of Microstrategy soaring.

Just last Friday, December 4th, CEO Saylor announced the purchase of an additional 2,574 BTC. At the time of going to press, Microstrategy now holds 40,824 BTC.

DeFi holds record level, Tether continues to print USDT

While the Bitcoin rate and the top 10 Altcoins are taking a breather, the decentralized financial services (DeFi) sector in particular is printing green candles. With Compound (COMP, +14.5 percent), Band Protocol (BAND, +6.8 percent) and Sushi (SUSHI, +3.4 percent), the DeFi-Space represents 3 of the five Altcoins with the largest 24 hours -Increase. The value of the assets stored on DeFi platforms (TVL) is still at an all-time high of 14.8 billion US dollars.

Pomp convinces Kevin O’Leary of Shark Tank to buy ’some more Bitcoin‘.

Kevin O’Leary of Shark Tank explains that he would invest a lot more in the crypto asset if he was supported by the regulators

Canadian entrepreneur Kevin O’Leary, famous for his participation in the reality show Shark Tank, seems to have softened his position on Bitcoin after talking to Anthony ‚Pomp‘ Pompliano.

During a recent episode of the Pomp Podcast, O’Leary left behind last year’s statements that Bitcoin (BTC) „is not a real currency,“ while still expressing concerns about the volatility of the crypto asset.

The well-known businessman has revealed that he already owns some BTCs, and that he could invest „a little more“ of his $400 million net worth in crypto currency.

„I’m not against Bitcoin, I’m not against it,“ O’Leary pointed out. „But when it comes to putting millions of dollars at stake, it’s really crucial to understand that it’s an asset you can rely on in the long term, and I have a feeling there will be other alternative ideas.

O’Leary said that his biggest concern about investing between 1% and 25% of his portfolio (half his gold position) in Bitcoin is the fact that the crypto asset does not yet have the regulatory green light:

„Maybe I will invest a little more in Bitcoin just for the sake of it. I have some just to be able to follow the price but it bothers me when I can’t convince the regulators“.

However, if governments were to support digital assets, the entrepreneur said he would consider investing a larger percentage of his portfolio in crypto. „The world needs digital currency,“ he added.

„If you told me that governments in Switzerland, Europe, the United States, Canada and Australia have agreed on one, I would invest up to 20% of my portfolio in it.

The Shark Tank star’s comments seem to show a greater interest in crypto assets, given his opinion until a year ago. In a 2019 interview with CNBC, O’Leary called the crypto „rogue currencies“ because they could not be used to pay taxes and were largely unregulated:

„I have no interest in this crypto crap because it’s not compliant.“

Serious security concerns with blockchain elections

No democracy without trustworthy elections? MIT researchers have strong doubts as to whether the blockchain has a future-proof solution when it comes to voting.

The allegations of election fraud brought forward by the outgoing US President Donald Trump are putting the democratic process under pressure. This development has sparked thought about whether the election procedure could not be better protected from allegations and actual attempts at manipulation. Famous representatives from the crypto space formulated a solution that could be expected : Blockchain-based elections. But of all things, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) recently put a damper on these plans.

Scientists from the renowned research institute presented the results of a study on November 6thpublished on the security aspects of Crypto Method and other online voting systems. The authors arrive at a clear result:

Internet- and blockchain-based voting would significantly increase the risk of undetected, nationwide elections being lost.

Online voting has too many points of attack

The researchers say they are positive about efforts to make elections more efficient and to remove obstacles that (especially in the US) prevent certain groups of voters from voting. Nevertheless, they have reservations that speak against voting via the Internet and blockchain.

They remind you that the security concerns in elections are of a different dimension than in online shopping and Co. After all, there is no insurance against a “failure of democracy.” As long as it cannot be sufficiently ensured that all votes are counted correctly, they ran all efforts to improve the electoral procedure come to nothing.

A key argument here is that Internet-based attacks are much easier to carry out on a large scale. They may be hard to spot. The cost of such an attack is also much lower. MIT researchers also point out that the security of devices that are part of the voting system depends on too many factors:

Errors in the voting system can be caused by the provider of the voting software, the hardware manufacturer, the manufacturer or a third party who maintains or supplies the code for these organizations. The voter who uses a telephone to cast their votes depends not only on the telephone provider, but also on the hardware companies that provide drivers for the device […]

What does blockchains offer?

As far as blockchain elections are concerned, the authors note the same fundamental reservations as with other online systems. Consensus mechanisms and encryption are not enough for them to allay their concerns.

First, they are discussing a model in which votes are cast via tokens on a public blockchain. Each voter sends a public key to a blockchain-based electoral roll. He then receives a coin with which he can vote for his candidate. The MIT researchers see the problem here that the ballot papers are not secret, since all votes are cast publicly. This opens up mechanisms of influence such as the purchase of votes (“I can prove that I voted for candidate XY”) or an agreement between miners. In addition, public blockchains are vulnerable to DDOS attacks.

Permissioned blockchains should not be able to solve the problems either. On these centrally managed blockchains, depending on the setting, the problem could arise that the users cannot verify whether their vote was actually counted.

Finally, they discuss an elective solution based on zero knowledge proofs. Information can be confirmed here without sharing it. Thus, secret elections seem possible, in which the voting can still be verified. However, here too there is no satisfactory mechanism against influencing and buying votes for the authors.

Finally, the authors also rate key management as fundamentally problematic. In particular, voters who are not particularly tech-savvy could have problems here.
